Review 2010

ON THE RACECOURSE

This is where it really matters. The horses bred by Graf and Grafin Stauffenberg at their Schlossgut Itlingen won 23 races in 2010 - ten of these were achieved in England, the home of racing. Five races in their native country Germany, three in Hungary, two in France and one each in Australia, Sweden and USA show the international orientation of their breeding operation. Nearly all of the 20 runners, which hit the frame during last season were purchased by their owners at public sale as foals or yearlings and are mainly trained outside Germany.

Highlights of the past season were the Stakes winners CALRISSIAN (Efisio-CENTAINE) and GOLDEN WHIP (Seattle Dancer-GENEVRA). CALRISSIAN stands for the fact, that horses bred and raised at Schlossgut Itlingen are reared sound and last long for their prospective owners. GOLDEN WHIP hails from the 2007 crop and was kept by her breeders to replace her ageing dam GENEVRA in near future. She followed the footprints of her mother in winning a Stakes race during the "Grosse Woche" in Baden-Baden, when winning the Coolmore Stud - Baden-Baden Cup. 13 years had passed since GENEVRA won in 1997. DER SPIELER (Singspiel-Dabara) was an other Stakes performer. He seems to be one of the better hurdlers in Ireland being Gr.2 placed.

FAIRFIELD FLAME (Oasis Dream-FANTASTIC FLAME) did not gain Blacktype this time, but she is worth to be mentioned here, as she became the first winner in Australia bred by Graf and Grafin Stauffenberg.

6 more races were won by horses bred and raised at Schlossgut Itlingen for Capricorn Stud SA.

IN THE SALES RING

The foundation mare FRAULEIN TOBIN and her daughter FOUR ROSES have provided Graf and Grafin Stauffenberg with some very special memories and one more chapter is the sale of the 2009 colt by GALILEO out of FOUR ROSES. At the Tattersalls October Sales, the quite unusual marked colt impressed some good judges not only with his good fluent walk. He finally was knocked down to John Magnier, the master of Coolmore and went into training with Aidan O´Brien, the master of Ballydoyle. It will be wonderful for all at Schlossgut Itlingen if this colt, which is entered in the Epsom Derby, could do better than his sister FOUR SINS. Purchased by H H Aga Khan she finished fourth in the Epsom Oaks, when trained by an other master trainer - John Oxx.
