ROYAL ASCOT is called the pinnacle of racing in England, probably in the world. However you see it, it is a week of extremely competitive racing and everybody wants to have runners and especially winners at the royal meeting. So STAUFFENBERG BLOODSTOCK was lucky enough to have two 2yo runners - both pinhooked - at Royal Ascot: FLORA OF BERMUDA on Wednesday in the Queen Mary Stakes, Gr.2 and SOPRANO on Friday in the Albany Stakes, Gr.3
FLORA OF BERMUDA had been considered good enough to compete with 25 others in the 5f Queen Mary Stakes, Gr.2, even being a Maiden, having finished 2nd in the Hillary Needler Stakes after a troubled passage. The huge field split into two groups and FLORA OF BERMUDA "won" the race on her side, but finished overall 6th, as the leaders of the other group finished better on the quicker ground on the stands side. A very pleasing performance and it looks only a question of time before she will win a better race.
SOPRANO had won at her debut and sole start at the Craven Meeting at Newmarket and was backed as one of the leading contenders for the 6f Albany Stakes, Gr.3. After a slow start she finished strongly to be 3rd beaten only 2 length by the winner. A very good performance and the Highclere owned SOPRANO, trained by George Boughey, is seen as a Gr.1 filly in the making and has already been entered in the Gr.1 Moyglare Stakes.
